Technology Integration

At Zion, technology is seamlessly integrated into daily learning with a 1:1 Chromebook program for grades 1 through 8, providing each student with their own device. Each classroom is also equipped with an LCD projector, enhancing interactive learning and allowing teachers to incorporate multimedia resources into their lessons.

Standardized Testing and Academic Performance

Our students regularly participate in the Iowa Assessments and Cognitive Abilities Tests (CogAT) from grades 3 through 8 to benchmark and guide their academic growth. Additionally, Zion utilizes STAR testing three times per year for students in PreK through 8th grade to monitor and support progress in reading and math. Zion students consistently perform at or above national averages, showcasing our dedication to academic rigor and individualized student support.

Extracurricular Activities

At Zion, we value extracurricular opportunities that help students grow in leadership, teamwork, and responsibility. Our athletic program includes volleyball, basketball, track and field, baseball, and cheerleading, with participation available to students in grades 4–8. We offer choir to all grade levels and partner with our local public school to provide band for students in grades 5–8. In 2025, we expanded our offerings to include Scholar Bowl for middle school students.

Safety and Security

Zion prioritizes the safety of our students and staff. Our campus is equipped with a state-of-the-art security system, including surveillance cameras, secure entry points, and video conferencing capabilities, ensuring a safe learning environment for everyone.

Faith and Character Development

At Zion Lutheran School, spiritual growth and Christian character development are foundational to everything we do. All students participate in daily religion classes where they learn about God’s Word and how to live out their faith. Middle school students also receive formal instruction in Lutheran doctrine through catechism classes.

Each day begins with prayer and devotion, and students join together weekly for chapel services rooted in Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod teachings. Our staff models Christ-like behavior and integrates biblical truths throughout the curriculum, helping students apply their faith in all areas of life. Classrooms regularly pray together, and daily announcements include either Luther’s Morning Prayer or the Lord’s Prayer.

Students also take part in our monthly “Faith Families”—cross-grade groups from PreK through 8th grade—that focus on a specific Christian character trait, such as perseverance, kindness, or humility. These gatherings build relationships, promote mentorship, and foster shared spiritual growth across grade levels.

In addition, students participate in various service projects throughout the year, including food drives, care packages, and acts of kindness that reflect Christ’s love. Even discipline is handled with a Christ-centered approach, using Law and Gospel to teach accountability with compassion. Zion students are not only educated—they are nurtured in faith to become the next generation of Christian leaders.
