Who We Are

Zion Lutheran School, founded in 1859, has been a part of the Staunton community for over a century and a half. Our current location houses both the 1911 main school structure as well as the 1983 addition. Zion is one of over 800 Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod schools in the United States. It is the only state-recognized private school in Macoupin County. We are accredited by the National Lutheran School Accreditation Commission and recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education. The current program includes the Zion Early Childhood Education Center (ZECEC) and the day school (K-8). In any given week the program ministers to nearly 200 students. The mission of Zion Lutheran School is, “To prepare today’s young learners to be tomorrow’s Christian leaders.”
